Urispas – what is it prescribed for?
Urispas is an anticholinergic medication, which means that it affects the involuntary movements of smooth muscles. In the case of Urispas, those are the muscles in the bladder. There is a number of possible causes for these involuntary spasms and also a number of symptoms that are caused by these spasms and which Urispas helps relieve.
First, we would like to cover all the possible causes of these involuntary spasms. One of the major causes is enlarged prostate in men which narrows the urethra by pressing on it due to its increased size. This subsequently puts pressure on the bladder as well, which can cause different symptoms and also bladder spasms. There is a whole other array of possible causes of these spasms, such as interstitial cystitis, prostatitis, urethrocystitis, prostatitis, urethrotrigonitis and other inflammations and conditions that affect the urinary tract.
However, it has to be noted that Urispas does not treat these conditions in any way. It merely provides relief from the symptoms that are caused by these involuntary spasms. Symptoms such as dysuria (painful urination), nocturia (nighttime urination), urgency, suprapubic pain, incontinence and frequency. As you can see for yourself, the benefits of Urispas are many and it is one of those medications that can increase the quality of life for many patients suffering from different conditions that affect the bladder and the smooth muscles that contract due to different reasons.
What to keep in mind about the Urispas treatment
Your doctor needs to be made aware of much as possible about your medical history and your current state of health if they are to safely prescribe Urispas to you. For example, if you are allergic to Urispas, if you have blockage in your intestines or stomach, if you have history of stomach bleeding or ulceration, or if you have any urination problems, you need to report all of this to your doctor who will then run additional tests to make sure a v treatment will be safe for you. They might also start you off with smaller doses, titrating them in order to avoid any serious side effects, which are rare in any way when taking Urispas. Another medical condition that might be affected by an Urispas treatment is glaucoma and your doctor needs to be informed about it in case you are suffering from it. Once your v regimen starts, you need to make sure you are following all the prescribed instructions that are designed to ensure a beneficial treatment with Urispas. Some people experience blurred vision and drowsiness when taking Urispas, and if this should happen to you, do not drive or participate in any hazardous activities until you are certain that thee side effects have passed. There are some medications that can interact with Urispas and you should consult your health care provider who will decide if you can combine certain medications with Urispas.
Treating bladder problems with Ditropan
Ditropan is an anticholinergic medication and as such it has an effect on certain receptors which are responsible for involuntary muscle spasms. In the case of Ditropan, those muscles are bladder muscles which regulate the frequency and the control of urination. By reducing those spasms, Ditropan helps retain urine when needed and helps control urination.
Urge incontinence, the condition in which the uncontrollable leakage of urine is present is caused by a whole variety of problems. For example, in men over the age of 40, the most common cause for this is enlarged prostate, or benign prostatic hyperplasia as it is also known. Another major cause for urge incontinence is polyuria, or excessive production of urine, which in turn can be caused by such conditions like different types of diabetes, excessive intake of fluids (polydipsia). While polyuria causes urinary urgency and frequency, it does not necessarily cause incontinence as well. There are also certain brain disorders which can cause urge incontinence, such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, strokes and injury to the spinal cord. All of these can interfere with the way nerves in the bladder function. There are also different types of incontinence but they all have similar symptoms, most of which can be treated with Ditropan.
Another use for Ditropan is in treating hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating.
Ditropan treatment
In order for your doctor to be able to safely prescribe Ditropan to you, you will need to share everything you can think of about your medical history. By doing so, you enable them to make an informed decision on whether Ditropan is the best course of action in your case. You must not fail to mention allergies to this medication, nor such conditions like uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma, blockage in the gastrointestinal system or if you are suffering from inability to urinate. Some other conditions will require you to undergo additional testing to establish which dose of Ditropan will be safe for use. These conditions include such as glaucoma, kidney and liver diseases, enlarged prostate, ulcerative colitis, myasthenia gravis and other muscle disorders, gastroesophageal reflux disease or other gastrointestinal disorders.
Once your doctor establishes the proper regimen, you have to do everything you can to follow their instructions. This means that you are supposed to take Ditropan in exactly the prescribed doses, to take it regularly and to take it for as long as your regimen is in effect. Depending on the form in which you were prescribed Ditropan, there are different ways in which you are supposed to ingest Ditropan. If you have any questions concerning these procedures, you need to ask your doctor or the pharmacist to clear it up.
Most people do not experience any side effects of Ditropan, and even when they do, they are only mild side effects that are no cause for worries, such as dry mouth, diarrhea, mild constipation, nausea, upset stomach, headaches and certain sedative side effects like drowsiness and dizziness. You also would do well to ask your doctor about any interactions between Ditropan and other drugs that you might be taking as well.
