Antibiotics and their role in human history

It is now quite difficult to imagine that common cold was a common cause of death before antibiotics were invented. In fact, the whole of our history as a species has been marked by bacterial infections and all the lives these various infections have taken. Since we started off as a species, we have been assailed by bacterial infections that have caused and are still causing myriad medical conditions and that have taken more lives in the history of humanity than everything else put together. The simple reason for this is that before the discovery of penicillin we were pretty much helpless against bacteria. There are different types of antibiotics and one of those types are cephalosporin antibiotics, which are efficient against certain types of bacteria. Keflex is a cephalosporin antibiotic and a first-generation one at that. However, it is still the most prescribed antibiotic from its class and there are many uses for this antibiotic. Of course, Keflex cannot be used for any strain of bacteria, as there are certain strains that are resistant to it and which call for a different type of antibiotics to be used.

Keflex is a very versatile antibiotic and it can be used for treatment of many bacterial infections. Some of these infections and conditions that are caused by these infections include pneumonia, urinary tract infections, cellulitis, joint and bone infections, streptococcal pharyngitis, otitis media and many others. Keflex is also employed as prevention of bacterial endocarditis. It is the first-line antibiotic in fighting cellulitis and it is commonly used for other infections in patients who are allergic or oversensitive to penicillin as it is mostly safe for use in such patients.

Like all other antibiotics, Keflex also works best when it is used regularly, as any skipped doses may lead to the infections getting worse and this is especially true if you stop using the medication before your regimen is completed. It is also important that you inform yourself about conditions that might be affected by Keflex treatment and all the possible side effects of Keflex, which are mostly minor ones and are expected to subside in time. Another important thing to do is to take the exact doses, especially if you are taking Keflex as an oral suspension. It is advised to use special measuring devices in such cases, to make sure the doses are precise.
