Nizoral for treating serious fungal infections
Nizoral – treating serious fungal infections
Infections that are caused by different types of fungus are many and varied. They vary from the simple infections of certain parts of the body, causing such conditions like athlete’s foot, jock itch, ringworm and candidiasis, which is in fact a yeast infection or thrush as it is also known. Nizoral can be employed for treating any of these, but there are many other conditions that can also be treated by Nizoral due to some of its other properties. Nizoral is particularly effective and often used in patients with HIV or AIDS whose immune system is compromised and who are at greater risk of suffering from different fungal infections. Another common use of Nizoral is in treating eumycetoma, which is the fungal form of mycetoma. Some side effects that are caused by Nizoral are in fact the reasons why Nizoral can be used for treating other conditions. For instance, Nizoral causes the decrease in levels of testosterone, which makes it a suitable medication for the treatment of prostate cancer, as well as for preventing erections that might occur after the penile surgery and that can otherwise be extremely painful and even dangerous. Nizoral also suppresses glucocorticoroid synthesis and it is therefore also used for treating Cushing’s disease. Nizoral comes in a variety of different forms, from pills, cream, gel, foam and shampoo which is used for treating severe dandruff and seborrhoeic dermatitis. In Europe, Nizoral is also available as a mousse which is superior in its mechanism of delivery compared to shampoo. Finally, it has been shown that Nizoral is also effective in treating hair loss in men, most probably due to its effect on the levels of testosterone in the body.
Other stuff to keep in mind about Nizoral
Your doctor needs to know as much as you can tell them about your medical history and about the current state of your health. This is particularly important if you are allergic to antifungal medications, particularly Nizoral. In case you are suffering from any of the following medical conditions, inform your doctor as well: alcohol use, liver problems, low levels of testosterone, decreased function of adrenal gland or problems with the production of stomach acid. In a very small percentage of patients, Nizoral has caused problems with liver and it is therefore not advised to drink alcohol for the duration of your Nizoral treatment. This is also the main reason why you should consult your doctor about any other medications that you might be using and that might interact with Nizoral, perhaps enhancing its potentially dangerous effects on your liver. In addition, some other medications might interfere with the production of stomach acid in your body which can lead to Nizoral not being absorbed enough. You would also do well to inform yourself about any potential side effects of Nizoral, which are mainly mild and expected to go away on their own after some time.
